PURPOSE STATEMENT:
As a teaching and learning expert, the Middle School Learning Specialist will provide specialized academic and social-emotional support to individuals or groups of students within St. John School through our personalized, whole-child approach.
ATTRIBUTES:
10-month, part-time work schedule: 24-28 hours per week following the 2024-2025 school calendar.

As a teaching and learning expert, the Middle School Learning Specialist will provide specialized academic and social-emotional support to individuals or groups of students within St. John School through our personalized, whole-child approach.

- Evaluate 504/IEP or educational evaluations to support the admissions processes and develop in-house student support plans as needed in partnership with the above Supervisors.
- Work individually with students within the classroom environments and the Learning Center classroom.
- Communicate with other staff and family members about student progress and struggles.
- Use personalized reinforcement techniques to keep students on the path toward growth.
- Participate in student transition meetings, SNAP service plan meetings, etc., as scheduled by the local school districts.
- Serve as an internal consultant on whole child development, providing guidance and support for students and staff; collaborate in a variety of ways to improve teaching and learning practices.
- Work with staff to assist students who require extra supportive needs.
- Create and implement plans for students displaying additional needs.
- Participate in family meetings to help support the child and school in receiving outside support as needed.
- Strong Christian values; a desire to share God’s love with children and adults.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; additional certifications or a focused degree in special education are preferred.
- Current state teaching certification in one or more of the following areas: middle school, secondary, or special education.
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities in the school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging research in brain development, cognition, and social-emotional health and wellness into professional learning.
- Deep knowledge and expertise in high-quality teaching and learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
