POSITION TITLE: School Psychological Examiner
CONTRACT/SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule; 179/182 contract days
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Special Services
POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates the special education process from screening through evaluation to ensure
appropriate identification of students with disabilities. This includes the administration of standardized tests, participation
in multi-disciplinary evaluation teams, and procedures related to compliance with state and federal requirements for the
implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), PL 94-142, and MSIP standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinates screening in all 7 areas of school functioning, including: health, vision, hearing, speech/language,
intellectual/cognitive, academic achievement, and social/emotional development.
2. Completes referral process and forms.
3. Assists team in determination of need for an evaluation, with subsequent development of evaluation plan or notice
of action refused, as appropriate.
4. Conducts diagnostic evaluation, monitors completion of evaluations process, chairs diagnostic staffing meeting
regarding results.
5. Conducts conferences with parents to review results of the evaluation and explains next steps in the special
education process.
6. Disseminates evaluations to appropriate staff within the building and/or district.
7. Monitors evaluations and student files to ensure compliance with time lines related to special education
evaluations and IEP development.
8. Monitors special education files and informs staff of any needed documentation.
9. Coordinates with counselor(s) regarding transfer of special education students in and out of the district.
10. Serves as IEP team member, when appropriate.
11. Completes year-end reports to the Director of Special Education regarding referrals, evaluations, and special
education data.
12. Attends regularly scheduled meetings with the Director of Special Education.
13. Remains informed regarding changes in the Special Education Program Review Standards (MSIP), as well as
other issues and trends in the field.
14. Provides information to building staff regarding special education evaluations and processes.
15. Orders necessary testing materials and supplies, maintains accurate inventory of such equipment.
16. Attends faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
17. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars,
conferences, district provided professional development, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher
learning.
18. Establish and maintains cooperative relations with others.
19. Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or Director of Special Services.
20. Clear written and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria in order to qualify for this position:
1. School Psychological Examiner certification by the State Board of Education.
2. School Psychologist with a specialist degree from an accredited college or university.
