Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Special Education and/or Education Administration
• Valid Missouri Teacher’s Certificate in Special Education
• Five years of prior Special Education classroom experience
• FBI background check required for all new hires
• Any other alternative to the above qualifications the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities

• Complete and maintain all records as required by the State Department of Education – applications, final reports, amendments, census, handicapped count, etc.
• Monitors relevant assessments in Special Education related to referrals and re-evaluations
• Serves as legal education agency (LEA) representative for Jefferson R-VII Schools by attending meetings and ensuring compliance with special education processes, standards, and laws
• Reviews and processes paperwork to facilitate special education services such as review of existing data meetings, developing assessment plans, facilitating documentation for transfer students, reviewing and assisting with Individual Education Plan (IEP), and managing initial case referrals
• Assists the Diagnostic Team (psychological examiners) to conduct evaluations, write and interpret diagnostic reports and consult with team members
• Assists school staff with manifestation determination meetings, functional behavioral assessments and behavior improvement plans
• Contributes to the decision made by the district regarding budget, facilities, curriculum and personnel well-being of the special education program
• Assists with special education summer school (ESY)
• Coordinate occupational therapy, physical therapy, audiology, and vision services for the district as needed and review bills and contracts for these services
• Serves as the 504 Coordinator
