Position Overview:  Atlas seeks an experienced Director of New Teacher Development to create and lead strategic programming for all Associate Teachers.  Working alongside the Atlas Leadership Team, the Director of New Teacher Development will be responsible for developing recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion practices to cultivate a strong Associate Teacher to Lead Teacher pipeline. This individual will be responsible for the professional development and targeted coaching of Associate Teachers throughout the school year.  Stakeholder engagement will be a critical aspect of this position and we are looking for a candidate who is comfortable interfacing with school based leadership, higher education professionals, and community partners.  Resourcefulness, creativity and a passion for building from scratch will be key attributes for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
 
Strategic Program Design
  • Design and implement a high-quality new associate teacher curriculum and associated professional development scope and sequence
  • Collaborate with external partners to design, develop, and improve programmatic support, seminars, and workshops for new associate teachers
 
New Teacher Support and Professional Development
  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for associate teachers 
  • Provide direct coaching and feedback to associate teachers
  • Work with Atlas’ Instructional Deans to provide targeted support and coaching to lead teachers to support their associate teacher with content knowledge development, including through co-observation
  • Support associate teachers with certification test planning and preparation to ensure all associate teachers have completed necessary requirements for provisional certification
 
Recruitment, Selection, Management and Evaluation
  • Serve on Atlas’ Teacher Recruitment Team and work with school leadership to identify annual recruitment needs and support in candidate recruitment, selection, matriculation, and onboarding
  • Support school leadership team in Associate Teacher selection, evaluation, accountability measures, and promotion processes by creating and amending evaluation tools according to competencies
 
Assessment Design and Data Systems
  • Design assessments to measure new teacher progress throughout the year
  • Analyze school data in collaboration with school leadership to create action plans to improve new teacher development and retention
  • Create and manage systems to capture feedback and data trends to inform program improvements
 
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education or a related field
  • At least five years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
  • Experience mentoring or coaching new teachers
  • Strong understanding of best practices in teacher development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders
