Job Description:
Who are we?
MERS Missouri Goodwill's mission is "Changing lives through the power of work." MERS Missouri Goodwill provides a variety of programs and services to help support this mission. Some of the many programs and services offered are career counseling, skills training, education and literacy programs, employment services, and more.
Missouri has over 500,000 adults who have not completed their high school degree and not completing a high school degree represents a potential loss of income of approximately $400,000 over the working life of an individual and more than doubles the likelihood an individual lives in poverty. The Missouri Goodwill Excel Centers offer MO residents who are 21 or older the chance to attend high school classes in order to complete the 24 credits required in order to graduate with a high school degree in Missouri. Students graduate with an actual high school diploma, rather than a high school equivalent.  Classes are taught by MO certified teachers, are available morning, afternoon and evening, and dual credit courses are available so that students can begin earning credit toward college. Students are also able to earn Industry Recognized Credentials such as phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, Microsoft certifications, etc. Those IRCs can be used as elective credit, as can any remediation the student requires. Our goal is for Instructors to find joy in both teaching and learning. An accelerated, adult community allows instructors to build lessons around student needs and to use both data and creativity in designing courses. Instructors have opportunities to co-teach some subjects and to help create some of the electives. Missouri is the 6th state to open Goodwill Excel Centers so there is the opportunity to exchange ideas, curriculum, and best practices on a national level as well.
