Position:                  Practical Nursing Program Coordinator
Term:                      Full-time, 11 months
Classification:         Certified/Exempt
Location:                 FTC Adult Education – MEC Campus
Qualifications:  
  • Must be licensed as a bachelor-prepared registered professional nurse in Missouri;
  • Two years of experience in clinical nursing practice;
  • Two years of experience as an instructor in a nursing education program;
  • Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.

Reports to:               Director of FTC Adult Education

Summary
The Practical Nursing Program Coordinator must demonstrate the following:
  • Provides leadership and assures the general effectiveness of the Practical Nursing program.
  • Maintains continued approval and accreditation of the program.
  • Provides leadership for the program of study and is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning and development.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and actively participates in the curriculum development, revision and implementation process.
Essential Coordinator Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and schedule entrance exam, if applicable.
  • Verify student textbooks and resource materials have been updated as needed, textbooks and resource materials match program cost sheet, and are ordered in ample time so as to become available when needed for classroom and/or lab instruction.
 
Prior to clinical site participation:
  • Verify student drug testing has been scheduled, completed, and results obtained per program requirements.
  • Verify student background screenings have been scheduled, completed, and results obtained per program requirements.
  • Verify student immunization records for program and clinical site compliance.
  • Schedule CPR training and testing, and verify certification status.
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Teach a portion of the curriculum of the Nursing program, as needed.
  • Collaborates with the nursing faculty to develop, implement and evaluate the curriculum for the Nursing Program.
  • Collaborates with the nursing faculty to develop, implement and coordinate the Nursing Program admissions policy and procedure.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention efforts for the Nursing Program.
  • Establishes lectures and rotation schedules in conjunction with faculty and clinical affiliates.
  • Counsels students regarding academic and employment matters.
  • Collaborates with the Director to develop an annual budget for the Nursing Program and monitors program expenditures.
  • Coordinates the submission of annual reports and accreditation reports and any other reports required by the local, state and national agencies.
  • Insures that Memorandums of Understanding with affiliating agencies for the nursing program are current and contain appropriate information and initiates any new Memorandums of Understanding necessary to implement the clinical aspects of the nursing program.
  • Participates in the Nursing Advisory Committee for program compliance.
  • Contacts affiliating agencies for planning and evaluating of all clinical assignments.
  • Plans and oversees the orientation process for all incoming nursing students.
  • Attends meetings related to the nursing programs.
  • Prepares necessary paperwork for PN students to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensing exams.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs.
  • Possess teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to teach and control the behavior of students.
  • Knowledge of academic and/or vocational education curricula.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.
