The Mexico Public School District is accepting applications for the position of Guidance Counselor for Mexico Middle School (Grades 6-8) for the 2024-2025 school year.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Masters Degree and a valid Missouri Counseling Certificate (K-12).
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: New teachers 185 days with New Teacher Workshop Day; returning teachers 185 days with benefits provided according to Mexico Public Schools.
 
Main Job Task and Responsibilities:
  1. Assists and counsels students who are referred by staff or those who seek assistance on their own initiative.
  2. Implement the elementary guidance curriculum.
  3. Conducts individual or group counseling for students who exhibit problems.
  4. Remains available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
  5. Works with students on an individual or group basis in the solution of personal problems.
  6. Maintains records necessary for performance of duties.
  7. Works with principal and staff on matters of student behavior and preventive counseling.
  8. Supervises the administration of the student assessment program and student needs assessment.
  9. Administers individual assessments for referred students of cognitive and adaptive abilities.
  10. Interprets test results to students, parents, and teachers.
  11. Serves as liaison between school and outside agencies and participates in interagency meetings.
  12. Confers with parents whenever necessary concerning personal problems.
  13. Makes home visit in emergency situations to gather information and make contact with  parents.
  14. Coordinates the identification, screening, diagnosis, staffing, and placement of referred  individuals.
  15. Provides assistance to families to make appropriate social agency contacts when necessary.
  16. Reviews special services records for compliance with district guidelines and policies.
  17. Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize then with the general  range of  services and resources offered by the guidance department and provides necessary in-service programs.
  18. Works cooperatively with community service agencies on referrals and student services.
  19. Advises administration on matters of student guidance.
  20. Participates in professional activities.
  21. Keeps abreast and disseminates to other faculty members and parents new developments in guidance.
  22. Takes an appropriate role in interpreting the school's mission to students, parents,   and the community at large.
  23. Interprets the guidance program to the community and provides necessary in-service programs.
  24. Serves on the District Guidance Committee and Advisory Council.
  25. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
  26. Do needs assessment.
  27. Do lesson evaluation.
  28. Carries out guidance program evaluation.
 
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY GRADE: Teacher
