Summary:  
The Spanish Teacher will design and teach lessons to develop students' understanding of written and spoken Spanish language. 
 
Reports To:  Building Principal
 
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists secondary students in developing their academic language proficiency skills in Speaking, Writing, Interaction, Reading, and Listening to the Spanish Language.
  • Maintains classroom for part of the day.
  • Develop appropriate lesson plans.
  • Assign appropriate lessons and homework with timely feedback.
  • Instructs students through modeling, guided practice & free practice, while providing appropriate language support for comprehensible input and achievable student output.
  • Prepares course outlines & objectives according to state and local curriculum guidelines.
  • Develops and administers assessments.
  • Maintains student attendance and achievement records.
  • Evaluates student progress and takes responsibility for student achievement.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom, along with a safe, encouraging, student-centered learning environment.
  • Participates in building-wide efforts to give the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design & Assessment).
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Committed to working with under-served students. 
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. 
  • Missouri State Certification in Secondary Education. 
  • Bilingual ability; English and Spanish required. 
  • Experience in an urban school setting.
  • 3+ years of experience teaching low-income, minority, or historically underachieving students, with a record of exemplary results.
  • Highly Qualified Status (this status requires the following) …
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Appropriate certification for the course/grade level being taught. 
    • Documentation of content expertise in the area being taught.
