Upper School Dean of Students
Extra-Curricular Experiences & Student Life - Administrative Position
Begins August 2024


Pembroke Hill Upper School is seeking a full-time Dean of Extra-Curricular Experiences & Student Life beginning August 1, 2024 through mid-June with occasional summer work and includes school year breaks. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced, energetic, and student-focused educator to shape the experiences and lives of our students. This position reports directly to the Upper School Division Head and in close collaboration with all Upper School Administrative team members to create an outstanding grade 9-12 student experience. The ideal candidate will have experience leading student-led groups and developing or leading programs or initiatives that support a healthy culture guided by student agency and integrity.

Required qualifications and skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in education or related field
  • Previous experience managing, training, and leading groups of students, grade 6-12
  • Experience with managing contracts with outside vendors/partners 
  • Commitment to further the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community to make a positive impact on the lives of adolescents
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Empathetic and able to cultivate positive relationships with students
  • Detail-oriented, with the capacity and flexibility to efficiently manage numerous small and large projects
  • Exceptional verbal, written communication, and listening skills
  • A proven collaborator who can work with all internal and external members of the community
  • A dynamic instructional leader with a solid understanding of the developmental and curricular needs of high school students
  • Outstanding leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Strategic thinker and empathetic problem solver
  • Proficiency working with VeraCross or other student software programs preferred


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Develop the student life experience centered around the mission and core values of the school and in alignment with the school’s expectation for conduct and approach to discipline.
  2. Oversee the student experience and foster a school climate that enhances community and student growth.
  3. Oversee and create student programming, including 9th-grade and new student orientation, grade-level retreats, and assemblies.
  4. Work with our Middle School Division Head to coordinate all transition to grade 9 activities. 
  5. Maintain the upper school calendar and approve student activities (i.e., Student Government & club meetings) and field trips.
  6. Ensure appropriate supervision at school–student functions.
  7. Work closely with the Student Government to address community issues and plan all weekly assembly presentations.
  8. Work with Student Government and Class Sponsors to plan and coordinate upper school dances and grade-level mixers.
  9. Coordinate student activities, such as clubs and field trips, and work with students and faculty in setting up new activities.
  10. Serve as the sponsor to Student Government and Pep Club.
  11. Work with the upper school counselor to implement the US Advisory program and the Health & Wellness Curriculum.
  12. Collaborate with the Director of Leadership and Community Engagement on leadership programming for all upper school students.
  13. Work with the Academic Dean and Registrar to support the development of class schedules (including the master, student, special, and snow days).
