For the 2023-24 school year

Pembroke Hill School seeks joyful, energetic individuals to serve as faculty assistants in its lower school (K-5) for the 2023-24 school year. Under the supervision of a lead teacher, the faculty assistant contributes significantly to the lower school’s educational program by teaching and providing support to students through small group instruction and one-on-one work. While the faculty assistant works primarily with the homeroom teacher, the assistant also attends select resource classes with their class or grade level to provide support and assistance.

Pembroke Hill seeks to fulfill our mission by recognizing that diversity, belonging, equity and inclusion are integral elements of school and community life. Our mission-inspired goal is together, cultivating each to be a global thinker and valuable member of the PHS community poised to acquire the academic and life skills that make a significant difference for all.
The faculty assistant position is a school year position (August-May) with a one week Thanksgiving break, two week winter break, and two week spring break. Faculty assistants are either assigned to a grade level classroom or fill a “roving” position, providing coverage where needed. First year compensation includes an annual salary of $32,500-$35,500 and an excellent benefits package, which includes a 403B retirement plan (with an employer matching contribution), health & dental insurance, sick bank, tuition remission and free lunch. There are additional ways to earn compensation through extended day, athletics coaching and summer camps. Faculty assistant duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Engage children in learning, support problem solving, and supervise children throughout the day.
  2. Lead small group experiences as determined by lead teacher.
  3. Take initiative to identify students needing additional support.
  4. Collaborate with lead teacher to plan daily activities, gather materials, and set up experiences.
  5. Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing the curriculum and classroom routines.
  6. Use independent judgment to reinforce educational goals based on student needs.
  7. Work with the lead teacher in assessing and evaluating students.
  8. Perform duties of lead teacher when absent or in meetings outside the classroom.
  9. Keep the classroom teacher and lower school division head abreast of issues or concerns.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Education-related field of study, or equivalent experience in Education.
  • Min. 1 year experience working with children, preferably in a teaching or tutoring role.
