Summary:
The Literacy Interventionist provides strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend.
Reports To: Building Principal

The Literacy Interventionist provides strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend.
Reports To: Building Principal
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support the facilitation of the school’s literacy intervention program.
- Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers to develop best practices for the continuous academic growth of students in literacy.
- Assist teachers with data collection, and analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff.
- Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.
- Teach targeted literacy intervention to individual, small group, and/or full classroom settings daily using research-based strategies and resources.
- Assist students using software and materials related to literacy programs.
- Meet regularly with the classroom teacher to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content, especially literacy.
- Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Assessment and Analysis o Assessing students utilizing a variety of methods to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
- Analyzing schoolwide assessment data and determining students who need additional literacy support
- Planning for Instruction
- Creating intervention groupings and determining focus/goal and plan to lead to students toward goal mastery
- Ability to select appropriate instructional materials for a group
- Experience Working with Diverse Learners
- Familiarity with best practices in reading instruction for emergent bilinguals
- Professional Collaboration
- Leading literacy-related professional development
- Supporting individual teachers regarding best practices for literacy instruction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
- Missouri State Certification in Elementary Education.
- Missouri DESE Special Reading Teacher Certification.
- Special Reading Endorsement and/or completion of Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) or similar training
- Minimum of two to four years of experience working in a classroom setting.
- Experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
- Bilingual ability; English required and Spanish preferred.
- Highly Qualified Status (this status requires the following)
o Appropriate certification for the course/grade level being taught.
o Documentation of content expertise in the area being taught (early literacy)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the classroom.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
