JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Principal
EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Uses music of high quality in a variety of types and styles
- Develops students’ knowledge and skills in listening and reading music
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances
- Builds and maintains a program that attracts students
- Plans, rehearses and directs students in musical performances for school and community; applies knowledge of District procedures and limitations set on performances
- Collaborates with other District music instructors to ensure continuity of instructional delivery and programming
- Ensures that instruments and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored and that inventory records are accurate and current.
- Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
- Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
- Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in-group settings.
- Assess student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
- Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
- Takes responsibility for teaching the district curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
- Keeps abreast of current development in their fields and continues to deepen their understanding of their disciplines.
- Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.
- Develops classroom rules on behavior procedures, and maintains fair and just order in the classroom.
- Manages discipline in accordance with administrative regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements.
- Develops a repertoire of strategies to manage student behavior, individually and in-groups, in a manner that encourages individual responsibility, self-control, self-discipline, and effective decision-making.
