Job Description:
Grain Valley Schools has a current opening for a Diesel Mechanic. This position is responsible for keeping the district's buses and vehicles in a state of operating excellence so that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational process.

Grain Valley Schools has a current opening for a Diesel Mechanic. This position is responsible for keeping the district's buses and vehicles in a state of operating excellence so that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational process.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Hold valid Missouri Driver’s License
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must complete the requirements to obtain a Missouri Class-B CDL with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements.
- Must have a clean driving record with no more than 1 moving violation within the previous 36 months.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Including the ability to lift 110lbs.
- Must have a background in hydraulic brakes, diesel and gas engines, automatic transmissions and ABS systems.
- Successfully complete the training program provided by the district.
- Successful completion of D.O.T. Pre-employment Physical & Drug Screening.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a State of Missouri MVI License
- Possess and maintain a Missouri Class-B CDL with passenger & school bus endorsements.
- Diagnose repair needs on bus fleet and perform required repairs in a timely manner.
- Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on district buses, vehicles.
- Repair buses according to industry and safety standards.
- Reports to Transportation Director any areas of concern pertaining to the safe operation of buses.
- Drive a regular route or activity when called upon.
- Adhere to district shop safety guidelines and demonstrate good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Attends monthly in-service training to improve skills, attitudes and knowledge of school bus driving and student management.
- Mechanics must have CDL & School District ID while on duty.
- Demonstrates good human relations and communications skills.
- Must be able to work independently and under pressure.
- Must be able to lift at least 80lbs on a regular basis
- Submits to all required D.O.T. random drug and alcohol screenings.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Pay Range: $23.24/hr - $26.39/hr
- 12 Month Position
- Reports to the Director of Transportation
