Job Summary
MICDS is seeking a dynamic and talented teacher to join our English Department to teach in our Upper School, 9th – 12th grades, in the 2024-2025 academic year. The ideal candidate should bring a collaborative nature and a student-centered approach to the classroom as well as a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse group of learners. Our school community encourages ongoing professional growth and strong interest in implementing new curriculum and pedagogies aligned with highly-effective teaching practices. Preference is given to candidates with a Master’s degree in English or Education as well as experience teaching at the high school level. Understanding and application of standards-based feedback in the English classroom is encouraged. Experience with a 1:1 tablet laptop environment, willingness to effectively utilize technology in the curriculum and familiarity with AI and its evolving applications in the classroom is desirable. In addition to serving as an advisor to 10-12 students, the position includes additional community opportunities such as coaching and/or club sponsorship.
Essential Functions
  • Prepares course materials that effectively scaffold and support student learning through innovative and current pedagogical methods.
  • Supports students through timely and frequent formative and summative feedback offering paths for growth for each student.
  • Builds and maintains a robust and clear presence on the current learning management system.
  • Works with the department chair to plan, evaluate, revise, and document curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction towards innovation and culturally-responsive practices.
  • Attends faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as well as stays current with professional readings and research in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Uses effective and inclusive classroom management techniques to ensure effective community building and learning.
  • Serves as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students.
  • Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to support and assist students.
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development.
  • Meets with parents and guardians to discuss their child’s progress.
  • Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
  • Serves as a mentor to new faculty.
  • Fulfills roles with other projects and responsibilities that may be added at the School’s discretion.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in subject matter required and Masters preferred.
  • Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
  • Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must enjoy working and learning with children.
