Momentum Academy is a public charter school district with three campuses in St. Louis City, serving scholars in grades PK-8. Momentum promotes academic excellence in an environment of mutual care and support that builds character, confidence, and community among each of our scholars so that they reach their full potential.
Role
Counseling at Momentum Academy is designed to promote the social growth, emotional development, and academic progress of every scholar. Counseling services include classroom visitations, small group discussions, special programs, and some individual counseling on a short-term basis.

This role will be effective September 1, 2025. This role is a 10.5 month position. Teachers and staff are expected to be present for core hours of 7:15AM to 4:00PM during the school year from August to May. June and July will consist of preparation for the upcoming school with flexibility.

Essential Responsibilities
- Providing emotional and behavioral support to scholars through small group facilitation, one-on-one therapeutic support, resource referral
- Regularly communicates with stakeholders, including building staff, families, and community partners about progress and skill development of scholars on their caseload
- Participate as a member of intervention teams, including IEPs, Care Teams, etc., to provide input in developing treatment goals, behavioral interventions, and family support for scholars on their caseload.
- Analyze data, identify trends, and work with school teams to develop goals for individual scholars, progress monitor intervention effectiveness, and make response plan recommendations
- Works collaboratively with school and wellness teams to provide scholar behavioral intervention and skill building support that may include self regulation and social skills
- Consults with teachers, staff and parents to support the developmental needs of scholars.
- Performs individual scholar observations and provide resources and intervention techniques for school teams to support scholar success
- Refer scholars as needed to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
- Responds to crisis situations when appropriate, including performing risk assessments, and supporting the development of scholar behavior plans and return to school plans.
- Serves as a support facilitator for Special Ed and 504 team team meetings.
- Works collaboratively with District Social Workers and outside agencies.
- Follows the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
- Provide direct support to schools utilizing SEL strategies

- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or similar degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Valid Counseling certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- 1-3 years of experience
- Prior school counseling experience, or experience working with school-age children is preferred
- Experience in promoting social and emotional learning
- Experience in program development, oversight and growth
