JOB GOAL:
The job goal of the Director of Secondary Diploma+ Curriculum and Instruction is done for the purpose/s of directing, within the KCKPS MTSS framework, the secondary school’s curriculum and instruction program and services, providing information, and serving as a resource to others, achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the learning and leadership team.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Understand, oversees, and deploy best practice curriculum and instruction spanning 6th through 12th grade, which meets the district’s improvement goals, stratic plan, and accreditation system.
  • Collaboratively plan, implement, and maintain a district curriculum management plan, within the MTSS framework, in partnership with the Director of Elementary Diploma + Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of Early Childhood.
  • Execute a routine systematic curriculum needs assessment process to guide curriculum decisions within the MTSS framework.
  • Execute the creation, alignment, and revision of district curriculum documents (i.e.scope and sequence, pacing guides, and curriculum guides).
  • Collaboratively implement and monitor the district’s Model of Instruction, Guaranteed Viable Curriculum, Professional Learning Communities, and College and Careers model of Diploma+ Programs within the MTSS framework.
  • Plan and implement the district vision to support a college and career environment and the successful implementation of Diploma+ (Career and Technical Education, WBL, RWL initiatives, Dual and Concurrent Credit Programming).
  • Manage the selection process for new curriculum materials.
  • Keep curriculum materials, instructional programs/courses up-to-date with national and state standards/requirements and within the MTSS framework.
  • Make recommendations to the Superintendent and BOE for the purchase of new curriculum materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate in the creation and monitoring of the district professional learning plan.
  • Support the professional development of the district's Guaranteed Viable Curriculum.
  • Assist with the systematic training process for supporting the MTSS process, the Model of Instruction, and implementing the Guaranteed Viable Curriculum.
  • Communicate consistently to secondary schools expectations of implementing the MTSS process, the Model of Instruction, and the Guaranteed Viable Curriculum.
  • Collaboratively assess the quality and impact of curriculum materials.
  • Coordinate with other departments the planning and implementation of tiered systems of interventions, including tutoring services, extende school year, and Summer Learning. 
  • Support management of appropriate curriculum budgets.
  • Assist in the routine revision of the District's comprehensive assessment plan.
  • Assists building administrators and staff in using data to improve student achievement.
    • Assist schools in analyzing and interpreting data to establish a plan for meeting the needs of students who require Tier II and Tier III interventions.
    • Work with principals to monitor the plan for effectiveness and adjust as needed.
    • Work with teacher leaders and PLCs to identify ways to manage intervention groups within Tier I instruction.
  • Support the training of teachers new to the district.
  • Assist in the development and revision of district curriculum policies.
  • Supervise, train, hire, manage, and appropriately evaluate assigned Diploma+ College and Career Instructional Programs staff (Coaches, Coordinators, Assistant Directors).
  • Coordinates appropriate professional development to increase awareness and understanding of Diploma + strategies and components.
  • Promote the integration and use of technology as an instructional delivery and learning tool.
  • Stays abreast of education innovations, programs, methodologies, and research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Trained in curriculum management in the areas of secondary instruction.
  • Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience.
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Doctorate of Education preferred.
  • Maintains Kansas Teaching License.
  • Building Leadership Certification/license required.
  • Experience in building leadership required.
  • District Leadership Certification/license preferred.
  • Experience in District leadership preferred.
  • Experience in managing budgets.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
