JOB SUMMARY:
The dean of students is responsible for assisting the principal in the overall development of school culture that is conducive to teaching and learning. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to teacher supervision, professional learning communities, supervising student discipline and after school programs and implementing character education programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership in reforming the total educational program of the school. Work closely with individual teachers, as well as groups of teachers. Make classroom observations, create an atmosphere conducive to learning, and make effective utilization of resources available.
- Provide leadership to the staff in determining objectives and identify school needs as the basis for developing long-and short range plans for the school to which assigned.
- Identify, provide, assign, and coordinate in-service growth opportunities for teaching personnel within the school.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of all assigned personnel, recommend appropriate action in cases of substandard performances, and identify and encourage individual teachers with leadership potential.
- Implements effective student discipline procedures, maintains correspondence, documentation and record keeping related to discipline.
- Collaborates with building administration to refine a behavior management system that positively impacts student behavior in the school.
- Communicates effectively with educational community, parents and supplemental agencies as necessary.
- Fosters an environment for staff and students conducive to learning.
- Works collaboratively with the student services and counselors to support students, create opportunities and coordinate events.
- Supervises and implement school-wide programs that increase student achievement and reduces disciplinary referrals.
- Supervises in-school suspension staff and hall monitors, and implements the student code of conduct policies.
- Assists with supervision of summer school programs and Saturday school.
- Supports the principal in developing and implementing effective school-wide safety measures.
- Dean of Students: Assists with supervision of extracurricular and after school programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEGDE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively use technology to monitor data and present information.
- Ability to interpret school, state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution programs and ability to implement programs with administrators, parents, teachers and community stakeholders.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently and make effective decisions.
EDUCATION PREPARATION (Formal and Informal):
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five years in education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 11-month employee, administrator contract.
