This role is ideal for an individual passionate about fostering a structured, consistent, safe, and supportive school culture where students thrive socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
The Dean of Students will play a lead role in cultivating a restorative, accountable, and relationship-centered environment through proactive discipline systems, strong character education, and daily presence with students and staff. This individual will work closely with the Elementary School Principal to ensure that the school environment is joyful, orderly, and conducive to academic success for all students.

Essential Functions
School Culture & Climate
  • Serve as the lead culture officer of the elementary campus—visible, present, and engaged throughout the school day.
  • Support and maintain a positive, structured, and consistent school climate rooted in mutual respect and high expectations.
  • Promote restorative practices that emphasize repairing harm, building relationships, and teaching responsibility.
  • Model and support staff in implementing trauma-informed behavior responses.
Restorative Practices & Student Discipline
  • Implement and oversee school-wide behavior systems, including behavior tracking, analysis, intervention planning, and consistent follow-up.
  • Develop student behavior plans and provide leadership on tiered interventions.
  • Facilitate restorative conferences, peer mediation, and re-entry meetings following significant behavior incidents.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with families on student behavior matters.
  • Ensure consequences are logical, appropriate, and rooted in reflection and restoration, not punishment.
Student Support Leadership
  • Supervise common areas and student transitions (arrival, lunch, dismissal, recess, bathrooms, etc.) to ensure safety and order.
  • Support classroom teachers with student behavior challenges and follow up on discipline referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with school counselors, social workers, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Lead and track implementation of Character Strong SEL curriculum components focused on behavior and personal development.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal and leadership team to support a cohesive vision for school culture and discipline.
  • Provide training and coaching to staff on effective behavior management, positive reinforcement strategies, and restorative practices.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of behavior incidents, interventions, and trends.
Skills & Characteristics
  • A mission-aligned educator with a deep belief in the potential of every child.
  • At least 3 years of successful experience in a K–8 setting, ideally in an urban or high-needs school.
  • Strong knowledge of restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, and effective discipline systems.
  • Clear, firm, and compassionate communication skills with students, staff, and families.
  • Organized, consistent, and able to balance high expectations with genuine care.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or coursework in education, counseling, or leadership preferred.
  • Missouri teacher certification required; administrative certification preferred but not required.
