Position: School Counselor

Qualifications: Minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling; meet the state of Missouri’s standards for school counselor certification; fulfill continuing education requirements; uphold the Missouri School Counselor Standards and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) ethical and professional standards 

A school counselor at LCC-1 School District shall be a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual who empowers students, partners with parents, collaborates with faculty and staff, and coordinates with outside providers to promote a safe, inclusive, and positive school culture. 

Reports to: Building principal

Job Goals: Per LCC-1 School Board Policy, the district counselors shall fully implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program (MCSCP) which includes school counseling curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support.
Role of the School Counselor: School counselors are certified educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all. 

Key Duties of the School Counselor: implement the School Counseling Curriculum component through the use of effective instructional skills and the careful planning of structured group sessions; implement the Individual Student Planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents/guardians through the development of Individual Academic and Career Plans; implement the Responsive Services component through the effective use of individual and small group counseling, consultation, and referral skills; implement the System Support component through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs; use professional communication and interaction with the school community; and fulfill professional responsibilities

Terms of Employment: Contract length will be determined by the LCC-1 Board of Education. Salary will be determined in accordance with the current teacher salary and extra duty schedule adopted by the LCC-1 Board of Education for the school year. Benefits will be determined by the Board.
Evaluation: School counselors will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the LCC-1 Board of Education’s policy on Evaluations of Professional Staff.
