POSITION SUMMARY:  We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Specialist with a strong focus on graphic design and special event planning to join our team. This individual will ensure effective communication through visually compelling materials and well-executed events. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of graphic design expertise, event planning skills, and a strategic mindset for communication. This position works under the direction of the Director of Communications.
               

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art or communications-related field
  • Preferred: 3 or more years of experience in communications, including graphic design and event planning.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Excellent customer service skills in working with students, families, staff, administrators and the public.
  • Ability to initiate, multitask and complete multiple projects in a fast-paced setting and on deadline. Strong attention to detail.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed, including access to reliable transportation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Serves as district graphic designer, ensuring print and digital communications are on brand and are visually compelling and clear. This includes design and routine page layout of Mehlville Messenger newsletter, and graphic design requests from departments and schools. 
  • Manages and revises district brand standards.
  • Manages district website to ensure content is on-brand and sites are up-to-date. Creates a system for regular website reviews and updates. Serves as the district’s primary point of contact for website updates and website technical support.
  • Takes a leadership role in evaluating website vendors, including when applicable, selecting a new website vendor, migrating website to new platform, and providing training.
  • Serves as system administrator for parent notification system. Trains staff on sending newsletters, text notifications, auto-calls and feed updates. Provides technical support to schools and assists with the creation of notifications when needed. Maintains and updates users and system templates.
  • Manages PeachJar flyer distribution and ensures all school-level flyers follow established board policies.
  • Manages district 60plus program and budget and plans and executes several 60plus events a year.
  • Plans and executes employee retirement luncheon, recognition night and Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony and corresponding budgets.
  • Assists with the coordination and implementation of the district’s public relations, media relations, communications and community relations efforts.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
