Job Description:

MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid teaching certificate; four-year degree and/or DESE substitute certification required
• Experience as a speech team coach preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with the activities director and be responsible for the administration of the speech team
• Outline assignments and duties of any assistant coaches
• Plan and implement the scheduling of team tryouts, practices, and activities
• Set up a pre-season parent orientation meeting to review eligibility, code of conduct, and team rules
• Monitor student attendance and academic performance
• Develop a competitive meet schedule in coordination with the activities director
• Register with MSHSAA for district and state competitions
• Work with the high school principal and activities director for use of the auditorium and other areas for practice and meets
• Complete and submit requests for transportation in a timely manner
• Coordinate the materials needed for the success of programmed plays with the activities director
• Be responsible for the safety of the team before, during, and after events, including traveling to and from said events 
• Ride the bus with the team
• Follow district policies, site procedures, MSHSAA rules and the MSHSAA Coaches Code of Ethics
• Foster training in conduct, ethics and sportsmanship for all participants and coaches
• Be responsible for budget allocations when purchasing equipment and supplies
• Maintain accurate records of monies collected and deposited through/from fundraisers and tournament entry fees in compliance with District guidelines
• Maintain general upkeep of all equipment (props, etc.) needed for performances and provide an end-of-season inventory 
• Work with the activities director and the principal to maintain communication, solve problems, and address parent concerns at the school level
• Cooperate with all of the coaches in providing the optimum activity program possible
• Comply with time constraints for practice and contest schedules, including holidays/Saturdays
• Other duties as may be assigned

TERMS: Extra duty contract; $6,460 annual
EFFECTIVE: 2024-2025 school year
SCREENING TO BEGIN: Immediately; open until filled     

Recommendation to be given at the May or June 2024, Board of Education meeting.
