Job Description:
Grain Valley Schools is looking for a motivated and energetic Parents As Teacher Educator for the 2024/2025 school year.  This position will provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for working with parents of newborns to age five children, promoting their involvement and providing information and/or direction; assisting parents in goal setting and educational development; developing and refining program materials; and assisting in transitioning students to preschool and kindergarten.
 
Essential Functions
  • Screen infants and children up to kindergarten age to determine developmental levels and creating a program of instruction for parents (this requires a minimum of 2 evenings per week in addition to day visits)
  • Acts as a case manager for preschool students for the purpose of providing for the early childhood education, related, medical and mental health services
  • Organize group connections to provide information on parenting and developing parent involvement with the child's school activities
  • Serve as a liaison to parents and students transitioning through the first year of school
  • Refer students and parents to outside agencies to assist with meeting the needs of the children and their families
  • Prepare a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. student progress, contacts with parents, teachers, outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information
  • Complete required hours of training and in-service
 Qualifications
  • Certification and/or a four (4)-year bachelor’s degree in either early childhood, social work, health, psychology, or a related field and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents OR
  • A two (2)- year associate degree or two (2)- year certificate program in early childhood education, child development, or nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents OR
  • Sixty (60) semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree granting institution, which is contained within the United States Department of Education’s Directory of Post secondary Institutions and two (2)- years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents, as approved by DESE OR
  • Five (5)- years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE and a high school diploma or equivalent. Individuals that qualify for training under this specific criterion may be required to complete additional training at the discretion of DESE.
  • Knowledge of preschool development stages and parenting methods
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with diverse individuals and/or groups
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
  • Ability to exercise self-control in difficult situations
  • Demonstrated ability to handle information with utmost confidentiality
