Position Overview
MERS Goodwill is looking for a Mathematics instructor to join our Excel Center. The Excel Center runs five 8-week terms. Instructors have four classes per day that meet four days per week (Monday - Thursday) and have a 90 minute block for tutoring, PLC collaboration, and planning. Fridays are reserved for weekly staff/student support meetings, tutoring and planning. Instructors hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of The Excel Center curriculum and the success of its students. The Instructor will facilitate learning for students attending The Excel Center- meeting students where they are and guiding them to academic success. Our goal is for Instructors to find joy in both teaching and learning, and approach instruction with grit, creativity, and innovation.
Primary/Essential Functions
Goodwill, supported by DESE and MO DSS, has opened 6 adult high schools in Missouri since 2018. Our schools serve almost a thousand adults, offer 5 accelerated terms per year, are open from 8:30am to 8:30, and classes are taught by MO certified teachers. We marshall resources to help students overcome obstacles and remove barriers through flexible scheduling, life coaching, transportation assistance, on-site daycare, and a growing network of outside resources. Students are able to pick up where they left off and complete the remaining credits they need to earn a MO High school diploma. An accelerated, adult community allows instructors to build lessons around student needs and to use both data and creativity in designing, refining, and implementing curriculum. In addition, students are also able to earn Industry Recognized Credentials such as phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, Microsoft certifications, etc. APPLY HERE

Primary/Essential Functions
- Provide a positive learning environment for adult learners
- Develop and implement strategies, activities and objectives for learners
- Effectively facilitate a variety of differentiated learning opportunities including direct instruction, small group instruction, and cooperative learning
- Provide visual, auditory, and hands-on learning activities that lead to required competencies (as outlined by the State of Missouri)
- Track each students progress
- Work as part of a team to support barrier removal for adult learners
- Other duties as assigned
- Current Missouri Teacher’s Certificate in the relevant area required (Example: Math Teachers must be certified in Math)
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Educational Institution; Master’s Degree preferred
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of students, staff and co-workers
- Two or more years teaching experience with at least 6 months of direct educational experience in math is required; (1) one year or more is preferred
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Knowledge of Missouri educational requirements to receive a high school diploma is strongly preferred
- Experience working with nontraditional and/or adult learners is preferred
