Job Description:
OPEN POSITION:                        Sign Language Interpreter
 
START DATE:                              Immediate
 
STARTING SALARY:                      $27.04 HR
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION:                  Performs oral transliteration and/or interpreting assignments to assist a student that is deaf or hard of hearing and school personnel working with identified students.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:           

• Needs to sign Exact English
• Must have successfully completed training and certification as an Oral Transliterator by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or state approval agencies and must fulfill any future certification requirements to maintain
• Must be speech readable (lip readable) to an average speech reader with little or no effort. Must demonstrate familiarity with the English language and possess natural and clear articulation in language production. This includes listening to another's words, intent and inflections and simultaneously transforming them with the oral, non-voiced rendition of the message using the communication mode needed by the student. Effective oral and written communication skills
• The work requires proficiency in the use of various office and computer technologies in order to provide support and documentation of the transliteration services being provided
