Title: Early Interventionist/Mental Health Clinician
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent/Building Principals
Classification: Classified
FLSA Status: Exempt
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board
of Education’s policy on the Evaluation of Professional Staff.

Terms of Employment and compensation: Contract length will be determined by the Lexington R-V Board of Education.  Salary will be determined in accordance with the current extra duty and/or teacher salary schedule adopted by the Board for the school year.  Benefits will be determined by the Board.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Early Interventionist/School Based Mental Health Clinician will lead the early intervention/school-based direct services program and is responsible for developing, implementing and supporting the program objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Assist school counselor and district based therapist with coordinating early interventions with students, acting as an intervention specialist; Pre.K-4th grades at ECC and LBS.
  • Screen all children in assigned school grades, Pre.K-4th and provide direct and indirect observation of children screened as eligible for the early intervention program.
  • Provide clinical assessments and interventions for students and families. 
  • Collaborate with teachers and families to provide early interventions and family plans, and provide parenting education when appropriate.
  • Meet with each identified child to receive weekly early intervention services in the school setting, individually or in a small group setting with no more than 4 participants. 
  • Provide individual, group and family therapy, based on need (divorce, grief, etc), maintaining a full caseload, based on mental health standards and ethics. 
  • Participate in meetings as necessary (staffings, trainings, IEPs, community forums, etc.). 
  • Enhance awareness of mental health needs, services; and to promote community understanding of mental health and to enhance community response to mental health problems. 
  • Maintain data on students served. 
  • Be familiar with disciplinary guidelines, and at risk student characteristics/ needs, collaborating agency referral guidelines. 
  • Be familiar with special education regulatory requirements and assistance with the special education process as appropriate. 
  • Possess behavioral modification training, and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. 
  • Foster effective communication with students, parents, and other staff members. 
  • Possess effective organizational and time management skills. 
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising staff. 
  • Performs essential functions. 


QUALIFICATIONS: The school based clinician must have a Master’s degree in psychology, counseling or social work. Experience working with students and families is preferred. Candidates must possess or be eligible for and working towards Missouri State License as a professional counselor or clinical social worker.
