Position Summary: Coordinates planning, development, professional development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum & instructional practices for K-12 students. Provide leadership and coordination to create an aligned & articulated instructional program for the following areas:
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Requires valid Missouri teaching certification;
- Social science certification preferred, but not required for this position
- Other content areas of certification will be considered, including World Language or Physical Education
- Advanced degree required (Masters degree or above)
- Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and to coordinate a district-wide educational program and to interpret data and identify performance gaps
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deliver high-quality professional development to various audiences
- Knowledge in high-impact instructional strategies (Marzano, Hattie, etc.)
- Understanding of research-based educational practices and ability to lead implementation of practices with various teams
- Understanding of curriculum design and best practices (Understanding by Design)
- Understanding of evidence-based student grading practices
- Minimum of three years as a classroom teacher
- Minimum of three years experience in social science, world language or physical education
- Experience serving as content area chair, coordinator or leadership position preferred
- Coordinate the review, development and revision of all previously listed educational programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including but not limited to curriculum guides.
- Work cooperatively with other directors, coordinators, building administrators and instructional coaches to develop and supervise instructional programming.
- Plans, improves and oversees district curriculum and curriculum based assessments in appropriate curricular areas.
- Use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
- Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
- Develop and conduct or arrange for professional development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning in classroom settings and new instructional practices in social studies.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation as appropriate.
- Help support high quality grading practices (ie Standards Based Grading, competency based, etc.) at various grade levels.
- Attend & present at various professional development sessions.
- Assist in communicating information to family and community members about programs in the curriculum as needed.
- Support school teams as they monitor implementation of their school improvement plans.
- Oversee academic assessment procedures, both formal and informal assessments, to monitor student progress and rates of student achievement.
- Guides the instructional staff in developing short-term and long-term classroom goals and assists in determining priorities and timelines for implementation.
- Assists w/ implementation of evidence-based practices.
- Building the capacity of school-based teams in the context of continuous improvement.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep informed of & comply with district policies and regulations.
- Performs such tasks and assumes other responsibilities as Executive Leadership may assign from time to time.
