Job Description:
Are you looking for a job that changes a student’s life and utilizes your strengths as an educator? St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association (LDA) is seeking certified special educators to work in an individualized tutorial setting. Sessions may focus on remediation, supportive tutoring in a variety of subjects, and/or coaching for executive functioning. Teaching students strategies regarding how to learn and self-advocate is a focus of the program.

Schedules for each tutor are individualized as sessions occur after school (at least two days per week). Daytime assignments may also be available. Special educators with experience or additional training in reading; written expression; higher-level math; ACT/SAT Prep; study skills, organization, and executive functioning coaching; and/or speech-language services will be given special consideration. In addition, experience working with all grade levels is preferred.

Qualifications
  • Degree and certification in Special Education
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years classroom experience
  • Ability to work with children of various ages
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Team player
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel to designated partner locations, as needed
 Primary Duties:
  • Provide academic support to children struggling in the classroom
  • Provide organizational and time management strategies
  • Provide feedback and support to parents and families
  • Communicate quickly and effectively with parents, the school, and other key adults in a child’s life as needed or requested
  • Prepare monthly progress reports
 
Employees are required to be COVID-19 vaccinated. Masks are worn when working with clients. 

· This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
· This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
