Job Description:
Hannibal Middle School is seeking a dynamic educational leader for the position of principal for the 2023-24 school year. Interested applicants should visit to submit an application. 

The middle school principal will be an integral part of a team that includes the superintendent of schools, assistant superintendents, a business manager, and a cadre of building level administrators, directors, and specialists.  It is the responsibility of the principal to provide leadership with respect to the evaluation of teaching staff, school improvement initiatives, extracurricular programs, and student management.

The Principal has the responsibility for providing direction and management oversight for overall operations of  the school. 
  1. Follows and supports District goals, mission and implements District programs.
  2. Assumes responsibility for the administration of the building.
  3. Supervises and evaluates all employees assigned to the building.
  4. Assigns all staff members and students within the building and determines teaching schedules and student schedules.
  5. Works cooperatively with other district administrators and building staff in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
  6. Follows District, state and federal guidelines in providing exceptional children services as eligible, and monitors progress of students.
  7. Develops and maintains a safe, secure environment for students.
  8. Manages all monies handled in the school and is responsible for the building budget, including the approval of needed building supplies and materials in compliance with state requirements, policies and regulations of the Board.
  9. Establishes and maintains good relationships with parents, civic, professional and community groups.
  10. Disseminates information to the public about building activities.
  11. Determines staff needs in the building and plays a key role in filling vacancies within the school.
  12. Communicates regularly with staff, parents and District administrators.
  13. Participates in District meetings and committee assignments.
  14. Identifies opportunities for professional growth of staff.
  15. Works with school site council in accordance with district guidelines.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

  • Possess a valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience teaching middle school age children preferred.
  • Possess a valid administrator’s certificate.
  •  Successful experience in a supervisory/leadership position.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of education laws.
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.
