Job Description:
The Ferguson Florissant School District is accepting applications for the position of School
Counselor. To provide comprehensive counseling and referral services to families in need, with a focus on social-emotional support as well as providing access to prevention as well as corrections.
  • Must have a valid Counseling certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 
  • Must have excellent human relations skills.
  • Must have the ability to perform multi-tasks with good organizational ability.
  • Responsible for implementing the District School Counseling Curriculum based on building needs assessment results.
  • Work with students in a small group setting in the areas of self-esteem, decision-making, and career awareness as well as other areas pertaining to personal, academic, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide opportunities for students to evaluate themselves in relation to various career choices and assist in selecting educational programs appropriate to their needs, skills, and interests.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of services and supports provided.
  • Proficient in digital tools such as zoom, Google suite, SIS Tyler 360, etc... 
  • Assist teachers in working with students who have individual needs and concerns in the classroom using RTI procedures, the Problem Solving Process, Care Team, or Data Team Meetings.
  • Manage the testing program, including administering individual tests and interpreting the results to the students and parents.
  • Assist in identifying students in need of special programs such as remedial reading, special education, or gifted education.
  • Experience in a multicultural setting.
  • Assist students in making smooth transitions throughout their educational career.
  • Refer parents and students to appropriate community helping agencies as appropriate.
  • Have involvement in the curriculum development and program evaluation activities of the staff.
  • Provide virtual counseling sessions and support to students enrolled in the building distance learning program. 
  • Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges, universities, and career opportunities
  • Lead mentor recruitment, as well as managing and nurturing internship resources.
  • Assist in the management of internship cohorts.
  • Must be willing to engage in professional learning services that support the mission and vision of the district.
  • Provide supervision support and attend staff meetings in alignment with job responsibilities.
  • Be able to collaborate with the building office manager and attendance secretary to ensure accurate records are being kept of student
  • Must be willing to support the district's anti-racist standards.
  • When needed, support teachers (wellness coaches) with how to do interest exploration, how to brainstorm Learning Through Internships (LTI) sites and projects, how to manage LTIs and projects, run LTI meetings and work with mentors, etc.
  • Must be well versed in trauma-informed, restorative practices, and multi-tiered systems of support. 
  • Must be able to orchestrate a small group counseling session and possess effective communication skills. 
  • Elementary or Secondary teaching certificate and experience preferred.
