Maintenance Specialist
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager
DEPARTMENT:  Facilities


POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Specialist is to perform skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, and equipment. Work involves knowledge in several trades and the employee exercises a great deal of technical independence in determining work methods and procedures. The specialist is expected to take responsibility for the proper operation and maintenance of all equipment and systems as assigned. This individual must possess an above average trouble-shooting ability and must be able to properly diagnose problems and implement proper corrective action as necessary to ensure continuous reliable operations in SSD facilities. Review of work is received from technical and administrative superiors through inspections and discussions. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Electrical work to include repairs and installation of load centers, wiring, control circuits, motors, motor starters, transformers, lighting, etc. Ability to work with all voltages up to 480 volts, single and three phase.
  • Repairs plumbing malfunctions on all types of systems such as domestic water, heating, cooling, sewer and drainage water systems. Must be familiar with proper plumbing techniques such as proper use of back-flow preventors, chemical water treatment and other devices to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.  Repairs or replaces pipes, fittings, fixtures, faucets, valves, etc. commonly used in schools and office buildings.
  • Repairs, troubleshoots and maintains district HVAC equipment that includes boilers (steam and hot water) up to 300 horsepower, chillers (centrifugal and reciprocating) from 15 to 405 tons, air handlers, pumps, package and split systems, etc. Must have experience in low, medium and high-pressure systems and be qualified (certified) to work with all refrigerants and chemicals.
  • Operates hand and power tools and equipment as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains tools and machinery in good condition.
  • Uses all tools carefully, as instructed.
  • Able to perform all duties of the skilled craftsman and utility laborer positions as necessary. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required and over four years of related experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certification in at least one: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Refrigeration. Universal
  • Refrigerant Certification, Ahera Awareness, and Class-B CDL.
