Job Description:
The Sr. Educator, Early Childhood is at the center of daily operations, implementing and executing all aspects of early childhood programming . This position also ensures smooth operations in the Discovery Room and Preschool Science Series, develops new programs, interacts with guests, and supervises team members. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Visitor facing duties (approximately 60% of time)*
  • Manage the daily operations of the Discovery Room, including oversight of animal care and opening and closing procedures.
  • Deliver Early Childhood program across the Science Center including Discovery Room sessions, and Preschool Science Series sessions.
  • Cross train in other galleries and be a part of the bigger Gallery Programs team!
Office/Managerial related duties (approximately 40% of time)*
  • Support the design of new programs that meet the Science Center's community engagement initiative.
  •  Review of team developed content for proper alignment to department goals.
  • Assist in developing curriculum that meets Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Supervise Early Childhood team members.
  • Evaluate team performance and review resources to ensure learning and developmental goals of curriculum are supported.
  • Participate in the hiring process for new, high-performing, motived Early Childhood team members.
  • Flexible schedule and the ability to work weekends and holidays is required to  accommodate the needs of our guests.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to actively engage guests during your shift.
  • Be able to withstand large crowds and loud noises.
  • Other duties as assigned.
*Percentage of time for certain duties is a general estimate and is subject to change according to business needs. 

EDUCATION  AND EXPERIENCE
  • BS or BA in a relevant Science, Education, or Museum field required; emphasis in Early Childhood.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience required.
  • 2-3 years of cultural institution experience and/or people facing work highly desirable.
  • Interpretive training through the National Association for Interpretation highly desirable.
