Position Summary:

The primary responsibilities are to assist the classroom teacher in daily tasks and/or assist the special education teacher in carrying out the individual education programs for students with disabilities. The aide collaborates with staff to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students in a class;  work together creatively to accommodate special needs, diversity and educational backgrounds of the students; and overcome instructional challenges constructively. The  aide is a hard working, goal-oriented and enthusiastic professional with attention to detail.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Implement student instructional program as directed by teacher.
  • Follow behavior support plans of individual students.
  • Accommodate for each student’s individual needs.
  • Supervise students throughout the building, during arrival/dismissal, and during off campus activities.
  • Follow daily schedule of work activities.
  • Follow student specific special health care procedures as trained by the school nurse.
  • Provide a safe school environment for students. 
  • Accurately complete required reports/paperwork on or before established deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and staff personally identifiable information.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance
  • Participate in meetings, training and professional development
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
  • Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
        Skills and Qualifications:
        • High school diploma or GED required
        • Minimum of 3 years of experience with youth
        • Demonstrated success in the areas of communication, student management, and attention to detail.
        • Experience working with students with disabilities 
        • Knowledge of child development, supporting students with special needs.
        • Desire to continue professional development
        • Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities
        • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and an ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups, including parents, teachers, staff, volunteers and partners, informed of critical issues, activities and schedules.  
        • An ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to a broad and diverse group of people.
        • Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned
        • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers in school environment and community.
        • Must pass an extensive background check.
