Speech Language Pathologist

KIPP St. Louis currently educates over 2,000 students and at full growth, we will educate nearly 3,600 students and hundreds of alumni. Today, our St. Louis network consists of two middle schools, three elementary schools, and a high school. 

Position type: Part time (approximately 20-25 hours a week), exempt
Key Outcomes of the role…
  • Implement IEP goals for speech and language students.
  • Score a 90% or higher on compliance audit for special education
What you will do...
Under the leadership of the Director of Special Education, and in collaboration with School Leaders and Teachers, the Speech Language Pathologist will use effective strategies to serve the needs of students with communication disorders at KIPP St. Louis.  The position will include the following roles and responsibilities:
Planning and Oversight:
  • Determine and use procedures for referrals, identification, diagnosis, case termination and follow up of Speech/Language Pathology students.
  • Establish daily schedules for assigned students according to service minutes established in the IEP.
Screening, Testing, Diagnosing and Advising
  • Perform initial evaluations and re-evaluations as required by federal, state and district guidelines.
  • Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services.
  • Determines the effects of the student’s impairment in regard to accessing the general curriculum
  • Utilize allocated coordination time to perform additional professional responsibilities including developing and updating therapy plans, holding parent conferences, staff consultations and classroom observations.
  • Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment
  • Consult and collaborate with members of students’ teams to monitor academic progress and
  • design/implement IEP accommodations/modifications.
Managing and Conducting Therapy
  • Develop and implement an IEP (and other supporting paperwork) for each student within mandated timelines
  • Attend and serve as a member of the IEP team to determine eligibility of students
  • Complete progress reports for each student served.  
  • Maintain an individual folder for each student that contains all forms required by federal and state mandates.
What you should have...
  • Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology required
  • Missouri Speech and Language Pathology License required for position as appropriate
  • Experience in pediatrics/school-based speech and language therapy strongly preferred
  • Dedication to helping children grow and learn
  • A passion for working with students from underserved communities
  • Ability to take and quickly implement feedback
