Title: Secondary Teacher 
Reports To: Principal 
Summary: To create a flexible secondary program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for secondary education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned. 
Teaches the district-approved curriculum. 

1. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 
2. Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 
3. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences. 
4. Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. 
5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. 
6. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. 
7. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans. 
8. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. 
9. Plans and coordinates the work of Para pros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips. 
10. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree. 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Missouri Teaching Certification. 
Terms of Employment: The Teacher shall be employed for 168 days (170 days for new teachers). The annual renewal shall occur in March for non-tenured teachers. Details of the employment contract shall be established by the Board of Education.
