MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must possess teacher certification in the state of Missouri for Deaf Education/DHH
  2. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education
  3. Experience in this area preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Comply with evaluation standards and determine eligibility for services based on the Local Plan for Compliance and MO DESE Standards and Indicators.
  • Effectively communicate test results, diagnosis, and proposed goals and objectives.
  • Complete hearing aid, cochlear implant, and FM system checks daily.
  • Effectively use classroom amplification systems.
  • Prepare written evaluations and maintain records which clearly and succinctly document
  • services provided and student progress.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary team process regarding eligibility, IEP development, and consultation services.
  • Evaluate and document student progress on a regular basis, ensuring adequate progress in the areas of listening, language, speech, and academics.
  • Uses effective classroom management techniques and use appropriate behavioral management strategies for his/her class and/or a specific child.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting each student's goals and objectives.
  • Participate in building, grade level, and subject area committees.
  • Remain current concerning instructional and technological advances involving hearing impairments by participating in professional development, and provide in-service training to other professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant student records including IEPs, evaluation reports, attendance, grades, and discipline.
  • Assist in development of classroom activities to meet the communication needs of the student.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information following guidelines set forth by FERPA standards.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, and harassment as directed by board policy.
  • Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
