POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides a comprehensive guidance program for elementary students including the areas of curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, system support and developmental student needs.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Counseling
• Masters Degree in Counseling

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

• Provides support services for students in the areas of career, personal, social, and educational needs.
• Assesses and counsels students based on observations and test results.
• Provides personal counseling for students, families and groups to help them with personal goals, concerns and educational programs.
• Participates in Special Education referral processes and assists in referring students/families to appropriate community agencies as needed.
• Responds to crisis situations when appropriate.
• Provides orientation for students new to the program.
• Facilitates and participates in care team operations.
• Assists with transition programs including those from preschool to kindergarten, elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school.
• Directs classroom guidance activities, character education programs and conflict mediation assistance throughout the program.
• Supervises record gathering for new students.
• Consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
• Administers test and diagnosis results in areas such as achievement, memory skills, aptitude and preferences.
• Manages activities to support the guidance program and other school programs.
• Acts as Building Test Coordinator and 504 case manager.
• Counsels and guides students and parents in the use of test results for educational and career planning.
• Coordinates with teachers to provide guidance curriculum objectives into the regular curricula.
