Job Description:
The Dean of Students is responsible for the of discipline for students, the review of disciplinary procedures, analysis of discipline and attendance data to establish procedures with the home and school community to improve such patterns, and to develop recommendations for classroom interventions to address behavioral concerns which drives positive outcomes for students, parents, and staff.  The Dean of Students is also responsible for implementing strategies that will motivate and inspire students to succeed and stay in school. The Dean of Students will also be expected to monitor student attendance rates and ensure they remain high.
The Dean of Students will be responsible for demonstrating behaviors that are consistent with Normandy Schools Collaborative Five Pillars (Accountability, Professionalism, Collaboration, Trust, Respect). 

  • To provide supervision for all students on the campus
  • To process office referrals and suspension letters on behalf of the school administrators
  • To assist in the evaluation of curriculum and to make suggestions for improvement in conjunction with building administration and curriculum goals
  • To seek self-improvement through professional meetings, workshops, seminars, and university course work
  • To advise staff of the importance of maintaining a classroom management plan
  • Work in a team with principal, assistant principal, and student personnel support people to develop positive self-discipline processes with students
  • To assist teachers in improving their disciplinary procedures
  • To prepare and distribute pertinent bulletins to staff and students
  • To be responsible for supervision of the In-School Supervision Center and/or Saturday In-School Supervision
  • Assist in the proactive discipline process
  • To assist in the supervision of extra-curricular activities
  • To assist in the supervision of bus arrivals and departures
  • To assist in the supervision of hallways, cafeterias, and other areas of the campus
  • To be responsible for scheduling and supervising assemblies
  • To be responsible for discipline of students as assigned
  • To monitor and, where necessary, remediate attendance of students for assigned grade levels
  • To perform any other duties as assigned by the superintendent or his designee
  • Standard Elementary, Standard High School, or Standard Special Missouri Teaching Certificate, five (5) years teaching or dean experience preferred
  • Master's Degree in Education perferred
  • Experience with teaching, coaching, and organizational processes preferred
  • Proven ability to develop programs for staff and students
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and community
  • Ability to organize effectively
  • Ability to analyze problem situations and to develop appropriate remedial action
  • Ability in management and supervisory skills
