Job Description:

What are my roles and responsibilities? 

We are seeking a Managing Director of Operations to run the non-academic functions of the school as well as provide operational support to the school leadership team. The MDO manages an Operations Team of ~5 people along with critical external vendors. This role is responsible for outcomes across finance, HR, supplies and inventory, facility, recruitment and enrollment, emergency management, daily procedures, and compliance and reporting. Ultimately, the MDO and the Operations Team must, at a high level, accomplish the daily tasks needed to make a high-performing middle school run smoothly while preparing for high school growth. This often involves creating, upgrading, and executing on organization-wide systems.

  • Proactively seeking out ways to ease the burden of teachers so that they can spend more time focused on their classrooms.

Key responsibilities include: 
  • Oversight of daily operations systems including attendance, recruitment and enrollment, keeping the facility functional and beautiful, emergency planning, and regular event planning for students and families.
  • Stewardship of the organization’s finances, including budget creation (with EdOps and other key stakeholders), accounts payable, annual audits. 
  • Liaise with our board of directors regularly regarding financial business. Serve as ex officio member of the board's Finance Committee.
  • Manage HR functions for the organization, including oversight of benefits administration, engage regularly with HR-attorney, and, if necessary, conduct investigations.
  • Oversee planning for staffing, as well as lead talent recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Development strategy & stewardship planning, fundraising campaign project management, and philanthropic relationship building
  • External communications including updating the web site, creating a community newsletter, and developing WLA’s social media strategy
  • Coordinate regularly with the CEO and School Leader to achieve long-term outcomes for the organization. 
  • Engage regularly with a broad range of stakeholders, including school leadership, students, families, funders, and the board of directors. 
  • Reporting to the MO Charter Public School Commision and the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the USDOE, and other external stakeholders
  • Manage procurement and vendor relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including reasonable physical demands expected from the working environment of a school.
  • Experience working with diverse groups to develop and shepherd common goals
  • 7-10 years of school operations experience
  • Great communication and project management skills with a track record of successfully balancing multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Exceptional discretion when handling sensitive information (student-related or otherwise)
  • Good data skills (proficiency with Excel/GoogleSheets is a plus.)
