Job Description:
JOB OVERVIEW:  Cleaning and maintaining floors (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, stripping, buffing and polishing).  Scrubbing and sanitizing restroom facilities.  Removing snow and ice from walkways and parking lots.  Handling light facility repairs.
The bus driver transports students to and from school following a scheduled route, as well as, to and from special events such as field trips and ensuring their safety during transit.  The School Bus Driver’s responsibilities include ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, observing safety and traffic rules and maintaining order among students while they are on the bus.
To be successful as a School Bus Driver you should enjoy working with children and strictly observe passenger transport regulations.  Ultimately, a top-notch School Bus Driver should be meticulous when it comes to vehicle inspections and regard passenger safety as the highest priority.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Must have at hiring or secure within sixty days of employment a valid CDL bus drivers permit
With Passenger and School Bus Endorsement
  • Previous custodial and grounds experience preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable squatting, twisting, bending and kneeling while using tools and performing maintenance tasks
  • Possess working knowledge of the methods, technique and materials used in custodial work
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from heights
  • Familiar with operating, caring for and storing custodial equipment and supplies
  • Clean driving record
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Working knowledge of first aid procedures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience as a bus driver preferred
  • Maintain floor in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping and waxing them
  • Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling
  • Clean, sanitize and supply bathrooms
  • Clean and service custodial equipment as needed
  • Perform minor repairs on furniture, buildings and equipment
  • Maintain building performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring and other related maintenance activities
  • Replace air filters
  • Notify administration concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment
  • Report any safety, sanitary or fire hazards to the appropriate department
  • Lock and unlock windows, doors and gates
  • Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk
  • Ensure grounds areas are clean and orderly
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate to the position by the immediate supervisor
  • Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensuring passenger safety
  • Following the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops
  • Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
  • Complete daily inspection report prior to movement of bus
  • Monitor and report fuel consumption, mileage and passenger numbers
  • Report delays, accidents and emergencies
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of the bus when required
  • Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus
  • Maintain a clean vehicle

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION:  Length of contract and salary to be determined annually by the Board of Education.
Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal for custodial duties and by the Superintendent for Bus Driver duties.

  • Visual acuity with or without vision aids, ability to distinguish colors
  • Be free of impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger or an arm, or other structural defects of limitations likely to interfere with the ability to safely control a school bus
  • Depressing fuel and brake pedal with right foot and leg requiring 70psi
  • Steps to enter and exit buses, step down 3.5 feet to exit emergency door
