Assistant Superintendent of Student and Community Services

Summary Description:
The Grain Valley R-5 School District is seeking a highly qualified and collaborative educational leader for the role of Assistant Superintendent of Student and Community Services. This position has the overall responsibility for district internal and external communication, coordinating district strategic planning, and the coordination of student services such as enrollment and residency, homelessness, foster care, migrant, homebound, anti-bullying, long-term suspensions, and school-based therapy. This position also serves as the district compliance officer and coordinator of Bright Futures Grain Valley.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate District strategic planning processes, including the engagement of key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for District internal and external communications and public relations, including the training and support of external communications by schools and departments.
  • Support schools in the enrollment of new students and the enforcement of residency requirements.
  • Lead our Bright Futures Grain Valley networking efforts.
  • Supervise the director of the Grain Valley Education Foundation and school-based social workers.
  • Serve as the District liaison for the SRO agreement with the City of Grain Valley.
  • Serve as District compliance officer, including Title IX compliance, and anti-bullying coordinator responsible for training, data collection and reporting.
  • Serve as the district homeless coordinator and foster care liaison. 
  • Responsible for programs for migrant students and non-IDEA homebound services.
  • Administer long-term suspensions and discipline appeals. 
  • Represent the District on local and regional boards and panels.
  • Facilitate the district’s Leadership Development Seminar program.
Required Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • Administrator certification.
  • Specialist Degree in Educational Administration required. Doctoral Degree preferred.
  • Supervision experience at building level required.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, verify facts, make valid conclusions and deal with abstract concepts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the School Board, school officials, school administrators, teachers, staff, and associates.
Work Environment
  • Reports to Superintendent of Schools.
  • 12 month contract.
  • Salary based on experience and credentials.
  • Residency in Grain Valley School District boundaries is expected.
  • Contract to begin July 1, 2022.
