Missouri has over 500,000 adults who have not completed their high school degree and not completing a high school degree represents a potential loss of income of approximately $400,000 over the working life of an individual and more than doubles the likelihood an individual lives in poverty.  In 2018 MERS Goodwill opened three adult high schools in Missouri: Poplar Bluff, Springfield, and St. Louis.  In 2019 MERS Goodwill opened a fourth school in Columbia. The Missouri Goodwill Excel Centers offer MO residents who are 21 or older the chance to attend high school classes in order to complete the 24 credits required in order to graduate with a high school degree in Missouri.  Classes are taught by MO certified teachers, are available morning, afternoon and evening, and dual credit courses are available so that students can begin earning credit toward college.  Students are also able to earn Industry Recognized Credentials such as phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, Microsoft certifications, etc.  Those IRCs can be used as elective credit, as can any remediation the student requires.
