Position:                      English Language Development (ELD) Teacher
Term:                           Full-time, 9-Months
Classification:             Certified/Exempt
Location:                     District-wide
Qualifications:              Valid Missouri Teaching Certification w/ EL endorsement, required

Reports to:                  Building Principal, Executive Director of Student Services

  • Arrive to work and leave work at the time specified by supervisors and attend all required meetings pertinent to the position.
  • Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
  • Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
  • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
Essential Functions:
  • Performs educational assessments of students, including an observation of the student, review of the student’s educational history, conferences with the student’s teachers and parents, and an evaluation and analysis of the student’s academic performance and learning characteristics.  
  • Reports educational assessment findings to parents, classroom teachers, and administration.
  • Actively participates in the deliberations and classification of EL students and assists in the planning, coordinating, developing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of the EL program.  
  • Maintains confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contacts in accordance with federal and state law, Board policy, and the procedure of the school’s ELL education program.  
  • Provides thorough and timely reports, data, and information, and makes sure the EL Department stays in compliance with federal/state rules and regulations.  
  • Serves as a resource to school personnel on the nature, causes, and solutions of English language acquisition problems of students.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.
