Job Description:
The School District of Washington is looking for two elementary school counselors. The current locations available include Labadie and Augusta Elementary. This is a 188 day position(183 + 5 extended days). The pay range is consistent with our certified salary schedule with up to 10 years of experience for placement within the schedule.  Additionally, five days at the individual’s daily rate is included in the compensation package. Both positions are full-time, benefit eligible, and PSRS eligible positions.

POSITION SUMMARY
School Counselors are responsible for contributing to a positive and safe school climate and culture in multiple, substantial ways.  The school counselor has a leadership role in building and school District initiatives related to the components of the counseling program. 
SPHERE AND SCOPE OF INFLUENCE
School Counselors are responsible for supervising students,implementation of the District counseling curriculum and assessment plan, and utilizing resources accordingly.  Input and collaboration toward these efforts is critical as well as communicating with parents, patrons, and other stakeholders to advance the District vision, mission, and goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide instruction that cognitively engages all students in individual student planning and student career planning and development. Build and maintain secure relationships with students as well as maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, parents, and patrons. Provide a variety of substantial responsive services to address pressing or emerging needs in order to develop and maintain an extensive school system of support. Maintain accurate records in accordance with timelines including individual student records, classroom records, content area reports, grade level reports, and building/department records associated with this role. Actively engage as a member of a team including but not limited to, student teams, grade level or department teams, focus groups, Building and/or District teams.  The School Counselor continually and consistently collaborates with educators and other professionals from both within and outside the school community in a systematic way. Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, harassment, etc. as directed by Board Policy and otherwise required by law. Other duties as directed by the supervisor    
OTHER DUTIES
Additional duties necessary to supervise students, monitor events, or assist in an emergency situation. Attend building events such as open houses, curriculum night, informational meetings, and events designed to bring the public into the District. Occasional or sporadic duties such as taking tickets at an event, participating on an interview committee, covering a duty of a colleague, etc. Participate in professional development activities and/or curriculum work outside of the typical school work day and/or school calendar.   
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise students at all times and/or as directed by supervisor. Supervise events as described above and/or directed by supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Master degree or higher
Valid Missouri teaching certification appropriate to the level and subject matter or ability to be certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education based on equivalent field of study.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS
All employees of the District are expected to adhere to the policies and regulations of the Board of Education, maintain appropriate certification and competencies necessary for the position, complete required training annually, and demonstrate the values of the District at all times.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL DEMANDS
The candidate should be able to move in and around the classroom, building, District buildings, and campus locations.  The candidate may be required to lift up to 50lbs. and maintain consistent attendance in accordance with the attendance policy unless otherwise required by law. General functions such as the ability to maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly both orally and in writing, utilize District resources including District issued technology and meeting multiple demands from people while interacting with students, staff, and the public are required to fulfill the essential job duties.
