Job Title:             SPED Paraprofessional
Reports To:         Teacher/Principal
FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt
Contract Days:   Ten Months (Academic School Year)
The purpose of the position is to assist classroom teachers and/or principals, with duties regarding the students.
  • Maintain order with the students assigned for supervision
  • Tutor students on lessons determined by the teacher
  • Help to maintain a positive classroom environment
  • Assist students with lessons and assignments in regular classrooms as assigned
  • Assist teacher with organizational needs in the classroom
  • Maintain accurate records regarding students
  • Work as a member of the team with the teacher
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Obtained additional training as requested
  • Supervise of students in halls
  • Regular and dependable attendance

  • High School Diploma
  • Substitute certification or ParaPro
  • Ability to work as a member of the team

  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to pass extensive background check
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staff and students
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents and students
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to follow internal procedures to ensure internal controls are properly maintained
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Previous work in child care preferred. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Directors policies.
