Assistant Princpal High School 22-23

Description Open until filled. The Assistant Principal shall be responsible to the Principal of his/her respective
building. His/her relationship with the Principal shall be one of mutual cooperation and close
coordination of effort.

The Assistant Principal shall possess the appropriate principal’s certificate required by
DESE; a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a school of the appropriate
level, and a master’s degree in school administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This High School Assistant Principal shall:
1. Be responsible to the principal.
2. Help establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
3. Assume responsibility for discipline with help of the principal.
4. Assume responsibility for student lockers, student parking, and I.S.S. assignments.
5. Be responsible for the supervision of student attendance and attendance records.
6. Keep parents and students informed concerning attendance and tardy problems.
7. See that hourly and daily records are kept on all absences and tardies.
8. Be responsible for the signing of all excuses.
9. Have the power to suspend pupils whose conduct and character are such as to injure the
reputation or the efficiency of the school. The parent shall be notified by telephone, if
possible, and a letter shall be sent immediately.
10. Have the authority to issue or refuse passes to those students wishing to leave the
building while school is in session.
11. Develop rules and regulations necessary for the successful operation of the school with
the help of the principal, teachers, and students. The rules and regulations shall be
placed in the Students’ Handbook.
12. Advise and assist teachers in difficult cases of discipline with the help of the principal.
13. Assist teachers and students with school-sponsored activities, clubs, organizations, etc.
14. Assist in the inservice orientation and training of new staff member.
15. Assist in the evaluation of staff members as directed by the principal.
16. Be responsible for the operation of the school program during the absence of the
17. Assist in the supervision of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as designated by
the principal.
18. Conduct oneself as a representative of the school at all times and shall assist the
principal and the superintendent in establishing and maintaining a good relationship with
the community.
19. Assume any other duties necessary for the functioning of the high school as assigned by
the principal.
