Job Description:
SUMMARY: Reports directly to the Students In Transition Coordinator. Helps students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them. Works as a liaison between schools, parents, DFS, and other agencies to facilitate the needs of students in transition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs casework service with individual students and families to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  • Performs casework service with parents to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s challenges, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
  • Attends Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings.
  • Tracks attendance for all Students in Transition
  • Works with Home to School Coordinators, Principals, Counselors, the Family Engagement Specialist, and school-based Social Workers to provide resources and remove barriers to learning.
  • Maintains sensitive student records.
  • Maintain and track all enrollments that fall under the McKinney Vento Act.
  • Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with such outside agencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau, and Juvenile Court, as appropriate.
  • Conducts home visits
  • Serves as liaison between home and school.
  • Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
  • Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Social Work degree required
  • Successful completion of a background check by Human Resources.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Year: 12 Months (Federally Funded)
Salary:  Social Worker Range on the District Teachers Salary Schedule - $42,000/yr.
