Job Purpose

The Math Specialist will support school-wide efforts to ensure every child has the support needed to become proficient in math. The school-based Math Specialist will work to accelerate student achievement by implementing network-wide reading initiatives, professional development, and programming as well as support teachers to develop high-quality small group reading instruction and interventions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate the school’s math intervention program
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to identify the needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students
  •  Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff
  • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate intervention and support services
  •  Teach targeted math intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources
  • Meet regularly with the classroom teachers to plan UA Math instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher
  • Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content, especially math
  • Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students’ progress
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal

  • Apply classroom management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions
  • Assume responsibility for scholar success by holding all scholars accountable to school-wide behavioral expectations
  • Recognize, celebrate and reward scholar achievement and character development

  • Establish a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence and character growth and can fulfill their potential
  • Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle
  • Evaluate individual scholar academic progress through regular and varied assessments

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar field required
  • Master’s Degree in Education strongly preferred
  • Certification by the Missouri Department of Education required
  • Proven evidence of instructional outcomes; ability to assist in obtaining proficient and advance MO MAP Assessment scores for grades 3-8
  • Minimum of two (2) years or more of teaching experience
  • A demonstrated passion for and commitment to the mission of EAGLE
  • Demonstrated success working with elementary students preferred
  • Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting is a plus
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proven track record of student achievement result
