MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS in Education/Valid DESE certification in Special Education required
  • Endorsement serving as a Teacher Leader preferred
  • Endorsement as or coursework toward becoming Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBA) preferred
  • Classroom teaching experience of 6+ years preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Professional Learning Facilitator-Work with the special education director to design and provide professional development focused on behavior plans, interventions, and strategies to increase student success.
    1. Provide professional development feedback and modeling for regular classroom teachers and special education teachers in developing methods of data collection related to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Improvement Plans.
    2. Provides training on crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation techniques. Develop and implement building crisis teams and will respond to support crisis situation as needed.
  2. Instructional Supporter-Work with teachers and campus administration to analyze student data, diagnose needs to identify and implement effective, research-based strategies related to behavior.
    1. Observe teachers and provide feedback to grow teachers into reflective thinkers about their instructional practices and impact on student behavior.
    2. Expert knowledge in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments as part of Special Education Evaluations.
    3. Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring behavior plans and other interventions for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students.
    4. Support staff in using research-based differentiated instruction and addressing different learning styles including assisting teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing behavior management strategies.
  3. Instructional Leader-Establish a sustained presence in schools and district level committees working collaboratively in reference to PD Cycle 1 and 2 teachers.
    1. Attend Collaborative Team meetings to support special education initiatives.
    2. Participates as a member in IEP staffing, annual reviews, and manifestations.
    3. Provide oversight to ensure discipline documentation is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
    4. Participates as member of the Special Education Diagnostic Team to assist in the screening, evaluating, and making recommendations for programming of students.
    5. The behavior specialist actively participates as an advisor, resource specialist, and facilitator in faculty, department, and collaborative team.
  4. Resource-Manage and distribute behavior resources to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources when appropriate.
  5. Learner-Collaborate with Diagnostic Team on a weekly basis and District Instructional Coaches as needed.
    1. Continue to develop professionally as the behavior specialist by networking with others in the field.
    2. Continue to develop professionally by attending learning opportunities in order to maintain high levels of skill and knowledge on current behavior intervention research and practices.
