Job Description:
Summary: The Internal Communications Coordinator is responsible for increasing employee awareness, understanding, and engagement while implementing effective multi-directional communication across multiple channels and supporting change management initiatives.
Job Responsibilities: 
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements internal communications programs for the district in conjunction with the Marketing Administrator and Executive Director of Communications. 
  • Collaborates proactively with the Human Resources Department to ensure SSD staff are well-informed of District initiatives, key programs, and recognitions. 
  • Writes and oversees publication of internal communications vehicles including the staff e-newsletter and district intranet. 
  • Reviews, edits, and writes clear and consistent employee-facing communications on behalf of various stakeholders. 
  • Utilizes a variety of photo, video, and audio equipment for the purpose of producing employee features and organization training videos. 
  • Coordinates district-wide special events and award programs including Board of Education recognition efforts, student/staff banquets, Teacher of the Year, Regional/State Teacher of the Year, Commitment to Kids Awards, Special Ambassadors, and the Special Education Foundation award/scholarship programs. 
  • Coordinates and participates on committees related to internal communications, such as Central Office events committee and the Employee Advisory Council. 
  • Designs presentation materials for board meetings, community meetings, and other internal events. 
  • Assist with internal surveys and voice of customer methods. 
  • Serves as a writing resource and graphic design for the Communications Department. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
  • Prior experience (2-3 years) in a setting with duties to have included event planning and internal communications.
  • Knowledge of best practices, current strategies, and techniques in internal communications.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in planning, composing, and editing electronic media.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including editing, and proofreading (using AP style) with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Acrobat) preferred.
  • Experience utilizing website content management and email marketing systems.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, exercise independent judgment, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
