Job Description:
Lafayette Preparatory Academy seeks passionate educators and relentless over-achievers who have proven to be ambitious self-starters and operate with both a sense of urgency and responsibility. Teaching at Lafayette Preparatory Academy is ideal for an educator with deep passion for instruction and who is eager to participate in a collaborative coaching method in order to perfect their craft. In addition to daily planning time and weekly collaborative development after school, teachers will receive regular advice, support, guidance, and feedback from supportive leaders. 
Teachers will also participate in an extensive on-boarding process during their first year at LPA that will begin at the end of July and last for four to five weeks, followed by a monthly seminar that focuses on the culture of the school. Each subsequent year, teachers participate in the Professional Learning Institute which begins two to three weeks before the start of school. Teachers at LPA are committed to building strong foundations as a team before students arrive each year.
All of the teachers at LPA utilize backwards design to create and implement rigorous learning experiences that engage critical thinking while also encouraging the development of content knowledge and skills needed for success. (These may include, but are not limited to basic math facts, phonemic awareness and handwriting.) Teachers employ many instructional strategies, including Project-Based Learning and Design Thinking methodologies to encourage robust learning for all students. Additionally, LPA teachers are driven to help their students succeed. They embrace growth mindset for themselves and encourage and develop it with their students. 

Responsibilities Specific to English Language:
  • Serve as case manager for students on caseload
  • Perform educational assessments of students, including an observation of the student, review of the student’s educational history, conferences with the student’s teachers and parents, and an evaluation and analysis of the student’s academic performance and learning characteristics  
  • Report educational assessment findings to parents, classroom teachers, supervisor, and administration  
  • Complete quarterly progress reports on each student in the program
  • Use language teaching strategies to increase English Proficiency for students who speak a language other than English at home
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to link ESL and content instruction and provide support to English Learners
  • Adapt materials, assignments and assessments to meet the needs of English Learners
  • Actively participate in the deliberations and classification of EL students and assist in planning, coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating as assigned
  • Maintain confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contact in accordance with federal and state law, Board policy and the procedure of the school’s EL education program  
  • Provide thorough and timely reports, data, and information, and make sure the EL Department stays in compliance with federal/state rules and regulations  
  • Serve as a resource to school personnel on the nature, causes, and solutions of English language acquisition problems of students
  • Arrange interpreters and communication in multiple languages as needed
